State Government Involvement
The Indiana Bankers Association is the banking industry's voice in the Indiana General Assembly. Year after year, the IBA advocates the importance of Indiana's banking industry in our communities and in our economy by initiating, negotiating and lobbying for the enactment of positive banking laws and regulations and by opposing and defeating measures that would hurt the banking community and its customers. The IBA is committed to building relationships between its members and the legislators of the Indiana General Assembly. Each year, the IBA hosts an annual Legislative Reception during the legislative session to honor the members of the Indiana General Assembly and other state dignitaries. Also, the IBA plans eight regional meetings that are held throughout the state during the interim where bankers and legislators are invited to come together for lunch. These events allow bankers to discuss the issues of the day with their elected representatives in an informal atmosphere.
How Can I Get Involved
The IBA offers a variety of options for bankers who want to get involved in their state government. These options include contributing to Indiana BANKPAC to help support elected officials who care about banking interests, communicating your thoughts and concerns with your elected officials through our Capwiz system, and visiting with your elected officials by attending the Indiana Bankers Association Legislative Reception and the IBA Regional Meetings.
Indiana BANKPAC is the political action committee of the IBA. Individual bankers, banks and bank political action committees have the ability to give contributions to Indiana BANKPAC. Once Indiana BANKPAC receives those funds, the money is used for financial assistance to campaign committees for specific candidates, as well as to political committees. Much of the funds are used to support candidates for state office who understand and support a positive business environment for the conduct of banking activity. If you are interested in making a BANKPAC contribution, please contact Josh Myers at (317) 917-8047.
Capwiz is the IBA legislative action center that presents issue briefs and summaries of current legislation. Here, bankers and those supportive of the banking industry have the opportunity to view and easily participate in action alerts through letters, emails and phone calls to their elected officials.
Indiana Bankers Association Legislative Reception
Each year, the Indiana Bankers Association Legislative Reception offers bankers the opportunity to meet with legislators during the legislative session to discuss issues that are currently being debated at the statehouse. This is a valuable way for the legislators of Indiana to see the individuals who make up the banking industry. The Legislative Reception for the 2013 session was held on February 12, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. Thank you to all those who made this event a great success!
The IBA will hold eight Regional Meetings this summer to allow bankers and legislators the opportunity to meet for lunch and get to know one another. Meetings will be held in Evansville, Spiceland, Merrillville, Crawfordsville, Jefffersonville, Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Kokomo. To register to attend a meeting near you, click here.
